If you put 10 adults in a room…
- About 6 of them are taking at least one prescription medication right now.
- 3 to 4 are juggling multiple prescriptions.
- And at least one person is on FIVE or more prescription meds!!
Not that long ago, this would have been unimaginable.
Now it’s normal life for millions of people.
Over the past few decades, prescription drugs went from something used occasionally to something many people rely on as part of everyday life.
Today, we often call someone “healthy” if their symptoms are controlled by pharmaceuticals.
But managing symptoms is not the same as restoring health.
And it’s not the same as the body recovering and resetting from disease.
Before I go any further, let me be clear about something.
I’m not here to judge anyone.
Most people would prefer going drug free but the system doesn’t show them or guide them how. They worry that if they don’t do as they are told, it will have dire consequences
Also, I am not completely against conventional medications.
Some, such as antibiotics, can be lifesaving when they’re truly needed.
Conventional Medications vs Natural Healing for Dogs
But after decades of clinical experience — watching both people and dogs over time — I’ve come to believe that many “good” pharmaceutical are overprescribed and unnecessary for full recovery.
We all worry about getting sick, and when presented with the possibility of a quick fix, this can be irresistible.
Who wouldn’t want a quick and side-effect free recovery?
Also when a doctor or veterinarian hands you a prescription, it can feel uncomfortable — or even irresponsible — to question it.
But in my experience, many conventional medications don’t address the core of the problem.
They quiet symptoms. They may suppress pain or inflammation.
When it comes to our dogs, this can make it look like the problem is solved, even when the true cause hasn’t been addressed.
Pain and Inflammation: Your Dog’s Healing Signals
What many people are not aware of, though, is that most pharmaceutical drugs do not truly heal. They can, and often do, negatively alter the body’s natural healing process, sometimes creating deeper problems over time.
I realize pain and inflammation don’t feel good but they have their role in any effective healing process.
They’re signals that something is out of balance and needs attention, not silencing.
Think of them as a caring (sometimes intense) neighbour who is doing their best to look out for you.
For anyone interested in a more holistic dog health approach, understanding these signals instead of suppressing them is a key step toward natural healing and recovery.
When Conventional Medicine Is Necessary for Dogs
My goal is not to tell you to reject conventional medicine outright.
It’s to help you understand when a medication may truly be necessary, which ones are relatively harmless, and which ones are a big NO.
To help you do that, I’ve written a blog post about one of the most common — and dangerous — conventional medications for dogs.
My hope is to share deeper insights into the healing process, and how to make informed decisions that are not based on worry, but knowledge and empowerment.
This blog post will help you take a step in that direction and explore safer, more natural alternatives for your dog’s long-term health.
