The January Giving Report
Hi Dog Lovers,
This is Alicia and I am here to give you our January giving report.
Would you believe a month has gone by and we are here to present another giving report about our company’s contributions made on your behalf.
Last month we contributed to The Richmond Animal Protection Society and the Visakha Society for the Protection and Care of Animals, both amazing and very well-run organizations. You can read more about them here.
This time, we contributed to the Friends of National Parks Foundation, a local grassroots organization that focuses on a holistic approach to wildlife and habitat conservation.
This month we donated $1,015 USD to plant 290 trees to rebuild native forest habitat at Tanjung Putting National Park in central Borneo. This habitat provides endangered orangutans more forest to live in! No condos, no high-rises or plantations, just more forest!
The orangutan is an animal that is close to my heart. My father worked with animals for most of his life, and when I was a child, he was one of the caretakers for an orphaned baby orangutan named Indah. I can’t remember if the mother died or rejected her, but now she is now about 30-years-old and is herself a mother.
Orangutans are now critically endangered because of logging that is clearing land for unsustainable palm oil plantations.
Deforestation from palm production also affects sun bears, tigers and many other species that share their habitat. This may be one of the reasons not to buy products containing palm oil.
I hope you don’t mind that I have given you a little more background to our donation than usual, but I feel it is important for you to know that your purchase and the love for your dog goes much further. We are grateful to have you as a part of our community and would like to thank you.
With gratitude,
Alicia Amundson
