A few “secrets” about how we run our company and team
Perhaps I have never told you that one of the reasons why you will find such positive customer service reviews and five-star product ratings in our Healing Store is that the senior team members and I pay close attention when choosing new team members; not only to their skills but primarily to how they fit our mission and company culture.
Dogs are at the top of the pyramid of values in our company, which makes decisions easier. This was the key core value in deciding if we should introduce free worldwide shipping. It is true that some orders cost us more to ship than we make on them; but as long as we are able to continue to sustain our mission, we are happy to do that because it benefits dogs. Without free shipping, most of them would not benefit.
I never thought I would love coaching and teaching the team so much, but I love passing on what I have learned as a vet. The most important part of being a vet besides caring for and understanding dogs is to always put ourselves in the dog-lovers' (customer’s) shoes. This helps us better understand what you need and how you feel. We all worry about our dogs, especially when they are unwell.
We also treat other team members as if they were customers, which creates a positive atmosphere where everyone feels safe and is at ease to do the work.
We also use a really fun personality profiling system that tells us what a particular person’s strengths are. It was originally recommended by one of our customers, and it works great. For example, we understand better who is good at organizing and paying attention to detail, and who is good at connecting with others and being in public.
Perhaps I do not come across this way online, but generally, I am quite an introvert, with a brain for ideas. I love small groups of people, writing, learning, swimming, biking, yoga, kiteboarding, hiking, DOGS :-) and coming up with ideas.
Pretty much all of the names of our products such as GreenMin, SoulFood, GutSense, FleaHex, TickHex, FeelGood Omega, and the HairQ test came to me without much struggle; and I confess I am a little puzzled by the mystery of the mind. When I am in the right space, all I need to do is open my mind and take notes. I jokingly call it "idea diarrhea." It almost feels like a "download" from another dimension, because it is so much fun and easy.
Growing up behind the curtain of the Eastern block, we were not able to freely travel which makes travel a symbol of freedom I once didn't have. Maybe this is why the best ideas come to me when I am travelling.
The best trips were with Skai and one of my favourites was our journey to Paris. I had this crazy idea that I wanted him to run around the Eiffel Tower and the experience will remain etched in my memory forever. My friends often laugh that I can make everything happen. In fact, I have a dream that one day soon, all dogs will be able to travel safely on a plane, and not in the cargo hold.
I love watching this video over and over not only because I miss Skai but because it is also a good reminder that doing wild and crazy things makes for the most memorable part of life. If you are wondering why Skai could fly, there is more to it here.
If you have any videos you would like to share please send us a link to them and we will share them with others. Videos inspire others to live the life that they imagine and make us and our community feel connected.
You can upload a video of your dog to a file-sharing platform such as YouTube or DropBox and submit the link to your videos here.
Speaking of travelling, I never stop looking for dogs when I travel, and there have been a few. The one I met recently was a sort of wolfhound, who unfortunately had a toxic tick and flea collar on his neck. Yuck.
This is prompting me to re-post a page on TickHex, our tick spray. The page has a chart of the toxicity of tick and flea products and the number of fatalities each one causes. Tick-borne diseases and the chemical products used to control ticks are a serious problem, and I hope that by using this chart, you can check where your dog’s product stands and how safe it is.
I am extremely happy to say that we have had no problems with FleaHex and TickHex except that we are still dealing with barriers in Canada. If you are in Canada, the only way to get one of these products is to have it shipped to the U.S. and have someone bring it up to you. Plus, as with every other purchase, we offer free shipping worldwide and quantity discounts.
That is all for now. I hope you are enjoying the summer if you are in the northern hemisphere, and if you are Down Under, at least there is always the summer to look forward to!
